How to Keep Yourself From TV Surfing

It’s estimated that by 2022, over 55% of all Americans will have cut the cable cord.

With the many TV subscription services available today, it makes a lot of sense to cut the cord and save money on your monthly expenses. But, many people are used to the ways of cable TV, including channel surfing until they find something good to watch. When you cut the cord, you need to be prepared to change up your TV watching habits as well.

Keep reading to discover a few simple ways you can leave TV surfing in the past with your new subscription services.

Find a Show With Plenty of Content

Not sure how to stop channel surfing? Start by finding a show you enjoy that has a lot of content.

With subscription services, you have the ability to watch season after season of your favorite shows with interruptions or waiting for the next episode to air. This is great if you like to have a comforting show to watch every evening without having to choose what to watch. But, you’ll want to choose a show with a lot of content to keep you busy for a while.

If you like older shows, the show gunsmoke is a great option with over 600 episodes. If you want a show that is still producing new content, check out Grey’s Anatomy with over 350 episodes.

Just make sure you check the tv show reviews before starting a new show binge. You’ll want to make sure if it’s an older shower that it aged well and is still enjoyable.

Let Netflix Choose for You

If you’re used to channel surfing until something catches your attention, you may enjoy Netflix’s new Shuffle Play feature.

When you start up your account, you’ll see a little shuffle icon in your play menu. Select that icon and Netflix will automatically start to play a new movie or show based on your watching history. You can watch the first few minutes to decide if you like it before hitting the shuffle button again.

This is great for people who have a hard time deciding on a show just by seeing the still photo and a brief description.

Listen to Your Subscription’s Recommendations

Looking for more ways on how to find something to watch? Listen to your subscription service’s tv show recommendations.

Every time you finish watching a show or movie, the subscription will automatically recommend a few other things for you to watch. These recommendations are based on the content you just watched and your previous watching history.

By selecting a recommendation, you don’t have to navigate back to the main menu and be overwhelmed by all the possible choices.

TV Surfing Is a Thing of the Past

The act of TV surfing endlessly and never really finding something to enjoy is a thing of the past.

Start by finding a show with a lot of episodes so that you can enjoy it for months without having to choose a new thing to watch. Or, if you’re looking for something new, let Netflix’s Shuffle Play automatically play a show or movie. You can also immediately find a new show by choosing a recommendation as soon as what you’re currently watching stops playing.
